Piebury Corner

It’s pies and craft beer…. winning formula! I’d like to say I was here on the way to watch a football game but the reason for being in the area was to look at vintage furniture… the pie saved my life! We went for a “Theirry Henry – Venison and red wine” and a “Charlie Nicholas – Scotch Pie”. I washed mine down with a can of Beavertown Neck Oil but I’d rather a can of vintage Tennents (pictured) if they were still in production. The pies themselves had a good pastry and rich with filling. Miso satisfied. Piebury Corner 209-211 Holloway Road Holloway London […]

One Sixty

My friends chose this place after searching for a decent restaurant online. None of us are familiar with the area. The professional looking website promised a Michelin star experience. In fact they may have even claimed they had a star. Miso reveals the shocking truth though. On entering the walls are adorned with a a bright yellow and white childish murial on a black background. The first thing I notice on entering the restaurant is a cartoon character with a big speech bubble saying “I love Nando’s”. Quite funny the artist was allowed to get away with that really. On the door to the ladies […]

Counter Culture

Counter Culture is the sort of tacked on extenstion of The Dairy comprising of a tiny kitchen where everything is made and a few high chairs from where to squash up and eat. I make it sound unappealing but actuallly I love it. Don’t go with more than 2 people as you’ll find you can’t talk to one another and you’re less likely to get a slot. The walls are surrounded by jar of mystery pickles in progress. It has inspired me to make my own Kimchi (as of yet it’s at the “thought that counts” stage). The menu is designed for sharing and seemingly […]

The Quality Chop House

The Quality Chop House is a restaurant and butcher on Farringdon Road. We chose to dine here because we were a couple of weeks into game season and I was dying to eat grouse somewhere. The restaurant sits in a 19th Century Grade II listed building and is still configured in it’s original design. The menu is predominantly British, locally sourced and sustainable. The menu changes daily so I’m kicking myself a bit for not writing this within a reasonable timeframe as I can’t go back to decode my blurry pictures! I know I ate the grouse and a friend had the T-bone, the rest […]

White Rabbit

This ended up being our local brunch place of choice on Saturday and we were quite pleased we chose it. I’m always a fan of sharing plates as I like sampling as much as possible too. Between 4 of us 7 plates was the perfect amount and happened to be 1 of everything on the brunch menu! A brunch review would be complete without a comment on the quality of their Bloody Mary’s so had to get one in the name of research… It packed a sharp spicy punch. Nice! Will definitely be back here and pricewise quite reasonably at 20 GBP per head roughly. […]
