I do feel for the vegetarian/vegan who likes to eat exciting food but aren’t adequately catered for in London’s top restaurants a lot of the time so I see the appeal of places like The Gate filling this void. Although not a vegetarian myself I often find myself dining with friends with various levels of complex dietary requirements who simply are left with very little choice on the menu once the nuts, gluten, dairy and whatever else is taken out. Recommended this place by a friend who’d dropped by and said it was amazing. Think it’s been open 4 months or so but amazing is not the word I’d use to be honest. As we weren’t overly hungry we just ordered 2 small dishes each. None of which stood out (at least not for positive qualities). The Vietnamese rolls were tiny and ice cold… it doesn’t take that long to prepare them that they have to make on batch and store in fridge, surely?
